I know in Lifeline they made it so fewer members of your group would get 'lost' doing missions you didn't instruct them to and I'm wondering if this translates over to this for all modes. I'm very intrigued to try out the new interface.Īnother question that I didn't see answered here (I skimmed the article) that I'm hoping there is an answer here is how the AI is. This makes me desire the XOne addition a little bit more than previously but I don't know if it's enough to have me buy it. And when you get caught far away from your base when a siege starts. Sometimes I purposely don't set traps near my base just so I can experience those crazy sieges. Plus the possibility of zombie sieges in MUCH larger numbers, defending your base with other players gets my heart pounding. That's what SoD could easily offer and the best part is, it's all already pretty much set up in SoD they just need to expand upon everything. I wonder how many players/zombies a firefight like that would attract =] Faction wars are a real thing, imagine finding out theirs a big airdrop coming in, well if you know, every other community in the area would as well. Imagine seeing a well patrolled base, do you take a chance and try and communicate with them and see if you can join? Or do they shoot on sight? Or maybe you're really their to infiltrate them, steal their stuff, and run back to your real base. The heart of SoD decay is the community whereas all the other games focus on you. When you add in an experience designed for player interactions, where people create their own communities, you end up with a sort of Zombie Eve Online experience. Taking on a feral zombie at an early stage is pretty much guaranteed death and when you make a stupid decision.well enjoy your permanently dead character. Every single one of those aspects I just listed are prime MMO stuff.īuilding a community with other players, gathering resources from the world, interacting with other players for your needed stuff and weapons, those are all aspects that would translate very well in to an MMO.Įarly game SoD is incredibly tense when you don't have a lot of stuff. When they said SoD was a stepping stone, they weren't kidding. The community building aspect, scavenging (actual scavenging), actual danger from zombies, and all the other aspects like health, food, ammo, etc. That's what made SoD so popular, they did. In an age with such a huge oversaturation of zombie games, especially the survival type, they really would have to do something new to carve out a part of the pie. He stated that the first State of Decay was "just the start of (Undead Labs') long-term ambitions". In a 2014 interview, Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain stated that State of Decay had officially become a franchise, with the company's partnership with Microsoft Studios confirmed. Class4 will be one of the first zombie massively multiplayer online games (MMOs) to come to the Xbox One. State of Decay was envisioned as a step towards Undead Labs' full online console game, Class4. On May 16, 2013, Undead Labs announced that State of Decay had gone into the final certification process and is now ready for testing by the game's publisher, Microsoft Studios. I am pretty sure State of Decay was always intended to a single player game with the possibility of brining multiplayer to is at a later date if it fit into the scope of what they were trying to accomplish. State of Decay (Codename class 3) was always meant to be a stepping stone towards their broader goal of making an MMO (Codename Class 4). To be fair, it was originally supposed to be an mmo.
